The Analytical Laboratory was one of three scientific units organized in 1955. The Laboratory was headed by A. P. Kilimov (1955 - 1959), A. M. Bulgakova (1959 - 1980), Y. A. Obukhovskyi (1980 - 1989), and A. B. Blank (1986 - 2007). А. B. Blank founded a powerful scientific school of analytical chemistry of functional materials. After the institution became part of the NAS of Ukraine in 1991, the Laboratory was transformed into the Department of Analytical Chemistry of Functional Materials and Environmental Objects. In 2005 the Department became a part of the Institute of Functional Materials Chemistry and in 2008 the Department was named after A.B. Blank. Since 2007, the head of the Department is K. M. Belikov. Under his leadership, the scope of the scientific directions of the Department was expanded, the instrumental base was modernized, and cooperation with Ukrainian companies was initiated. In 2013 the Department was certified by the State Service of Ukraine on Medicines and Drugs Control, it is also certified for compliance with the requirements of DSTU ISO 10012. In 2017 - renaming to the A.B. Blank Department of Analytical Chemistry. Since 2024, the Department has the Laboratory of Environmental Research.
Main Scientific Directions
- Analytical chemistry of functional materials, noble metals, environmental objects, foodstuffs, medicinal and pharmaceutical products.
- Application of spectroscopy (ICP-OES/MS, AAS, AES, EDXRF) and chromatography (GC-MS, LC, LC/MS, IC) for analysis of samples of various origin.
- Sample preparation and preconcentration techniques for multielement and multicomponent analysis.
- Development of micellar microextraction techniques and microextraction techniques using the deep eutectic solvents for the removal and preconcentration of toxic elemental impurities.
- Development of the approaches for validation of the analytical procedures.
- Sorption materials for selective extraction of radionuclides and rare earth elements.
- Application of analytical data for solving of theoretical and applied issues of material science and environment control.
