Starting a “chemical reaction” in choosing a future profession. A tour for pupils and students.

Yesterday, the SSI achievements exhibition and IFMC laboratories hosted 10th–11th grade pupils from various schools in Kharkiv, including participants of the second stage of the All-Ukrainian Student Chemistry Olympiad, as well as junior students of the Education and Research Institute of Chemistry of Kharkiv National V.N. Karazin University. They still face the choice of a future profession, although they have already taken their first steps in science.

The tour offered an immersive look into the world of modern technologies: from laboratories to real-world applications in medicine, industry, and materials science. Science is not abstract—it is tangible, understandable, and highly practical.

Special attention was given to chemistry—a fundamental science without which it is hard to imagine the modern world. Anyone would be fascinated by chemistry when it is presented by Academician of the NAS of Ukraine, Director of the Institute of Functional Materials Chemistry Valentyn Chebanov. He spoke about SSI’s achievements and developments, about the chemistry that surrounds us, and about the chemistry of the future, and hopefully started a “chemical reaction” in the audience, inspiring them to choose their future profession.

It was a pleasure to see interest and genuine curiosity in the eyes of young people. This is where science begins. Science is not about complexity, but about being engaging, interesting, and truly exciting.
