Yesterday, applications officially opened in Ukraine for the eighth edition of the L'Oréal–UNESCO For Women in Science Award, an initiative aimed at supporting talented Ukrainian women researchers, fostering their professional development, and promoting science among the younger generation.
Following the competition, three laureates will each receive a grant of UAH 500,000 to support the development of their research projects.
We encourage women scientists to apply and continue the success story of our researchers who have already been recognized through the Award.
Among them are:
- Iryna Bespalova – Doctor of Technical Sciences, Senior Researcher, Scientific Secretary of the SSI “Institute for Single Crystals” of NAS of Ukraine, laureate of the L'Oréal–UNESCO For Women in Science Award.
- Olesia Kulyk – PhD in Chemistry, Associate Professor, Deputy Director of the Institute of Functional Materials Chemistry of the SSI “Institute for Single Crystals” of NAS of Ukraine, finalist of the sixth and seventh editions of the Award.
- Kateryna Hubenko – PhD in Physics and Mathematics sciences, Researcher at the Institute for Scintillation Materials of NAS of Ukraine, finalist of the fifth edition of the Award, recognized for her outstanding scientific achievements.
The Award jury also includes Svitlana Yefimova – Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor, Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine, Head of the Yu. V. Malukin Nanostructured Materials Department of the Institute for Scintillation Materials of NAS of Ukraine.
The competition is open to Ukrainian women aged 18 to 40 (inclusive) who hold an academic degree in a STEM field, work at a Ukrainian research or higher education institution, and have their primary affiliation in Ukraine. The cumulative period of residence abroad must not exceed six months within one year.
Applicants must also meet the following requirements:
- have publications in scientific journals indexed in the international bibliographic databases Scopus and/or Web of Science, indicating a Ukrainian institutional affiliation;
- have no publications in journals identified as predatory and no participation in predatory conferences;
- be actively engaged in science communication and public outreach.
Applications are open until 30 August 2026.
